East European country considering Formula 1 event

Quote:
Formula 1's already over-crowded calendar shows no signs of getting any smaller in the future, with East European country Bulgaria now reported to be the latest country considering building a grand prix track.

Agency reports coming out of the country on Friday claimed that a consortium made up of Western European businesses from a range of countries, including Germany, Switzerland and Holland, were behind the ambitious plans for the £150 million track near the town of Sliven.

The project, which is reported to include having the track finished by early 2006, is fully backed by Sliven's mayor Yordan Lechkov, a veteran soccer star who played professionally in Germany. The track facilities will also include a kart track, hotels, a casino and renovation of the local airport.
