The first free practice session for this weekend's A1GP street race in Durban was cut short after the temporary kerbing at the chicane began to break up.
Brazilian Champ Car driver Bruno Junqueira, making his A1GP debut in South Africa, was caught out by the chunking surface on the first part of the chicane half way through the session. He lost grip and was forced to run over the second part of the kerbing, which ripped off his front wing.
The problem was blamed on cars from the support races hitting the kerb. The organisers are confident that overnight resurfacing will solve the problem in time for tomorrow.
