IRL 2005, the year of Danica Patrick
De Formule coureur met de meest opmerkelijke prestaties in 2004 was wellicht de Amerikaan Scott Speed in de diverse Europese FRenault 2000 wedstrijden. Deze coureur uit het ""Red Bull programma" was een van de kandidaten voor het GP2 circuit.

Helaas, Speed gaat terug naar de States. Voor het Red Bull team van Eddie Cheever zal hij uitkomen in de IRL. Enkele ovals en alle roadcourse wedstrijden. Zowel autosport.nl als italiaracing.net melden dit nieuws.

Eerlijk gezegd vond ik IRL maar een duffe aangelegenheid, met de komst van roadcourses kon dat weleens gaan veranderen. Heel wat jonge talentvolle piloten maken de over stap naar de IRL. De Duitser (Belg?) Andre Lotterer is bezig met een test en eventueel zitje in de IRL.

Toyota testcoureur Ryan Briscoe is ook op weg naar de States, tja en de komst van Danica Patrick maakt het geheel tot een mooi kijkplaatje

"IRL goes Beverly Hills, 90210"

Officials van de IRL en de welbekende TV producer Aaron Spelling ( De maker van Beverly Hills, 90210 en Starsky&Hutvh) hebben een overeenkomst met elkaar gesloten. De IRL zou als basis dienen voor een nog te ontwikkelen TV-serie, de verhaaltjes zouden wel fictief zijn.

Voor dat het zover komt moet er eerst een script worden gemaakt, dan een "pilot" ...........en dan pas eventueel de serie. Dus voordat we wekelijks naar de avonturen van een of andere IRL-hero kunnen gaan kijken moeten er nog heel wat hordes overwonnen worden

Bij autosport horen mooie vrouwen maar "adult entertainment" hoeven we niet te verwachten

In 2005 zal de IRL ook racen op road-courses, dus niet alleen ovals. Vandaar dat ze deze week testen op Homestead met de infield-sectie erbij........

Ene Ryan Briscoe heeft daar als debutant op zijn allereerste dag de gehele bende naar huis gereden. Toch wel een prestatie....

Mannen als Kanaan, Franchitti, Wheldon, Manning, Carpentier, Herta, Castroneves, Dixon moeten zand happen bij de tijden van Briscoe. Gaat nog leuk worden dit jaar.

Die road courses zijn mss toch niet zo een goed idee.
Hornish moet een week rust houden met tendinitis. Hoe heeft hij dat opgedaan? Door het vele schakelen op de Homesteadt road course

De kwalificatie voor de eerste race van het seizoen 2005 zit erop. In Homestead zal a.s. zondag de Toyota Indy 300 verreden worden.

De aandacht gaat uit naar de debutant op plaats 9.......eigenlijk debutante Danica Patrick mag zeer tevreden zijn met dit resultaat, ze zit kort in de buurt van haar teammaats Rice (4de), Meira (2de). In een veld van 22 deelnemers is dit een goed resultaat.

Maar Tony George zal nog het meeste in zijn nopjes zijn. Danica zal in 2005 het uithangbord worden van de serie, op die manier gaat George met de IRL eindelijk voor nation wide publicity

2005, het jaar van de doorbraak voor de IRL en vrouwen in de autosport? Mijn gokje: ja

De eerste race op een streetcourse zit erop............volgens de verslagen nogal een heftige bedoening. 8 van de 21 coureurs hebben wegens een crash of een botsing het einde van de wedstrijd niet gehaald.

Hyundai wil het motoren programma overnemen van GM in de IRL. GM heeft dit project weer uitbesteed aan Cosworth.

Ja en Cosworth is in handen van de Champcar-bonzen Kalkhoven en Forsythe. Let wel, die twee gaan niks verkopen aan Hyundai.............ze gaan er simpelweg een Hyundai badge opzetten.............

Daar komt bij dat Cosworth werk nodig heeft. RBR heeft de Cosworth motor vaarwel gezegd in de F1 en Minardi gaat vrolijk verder met een geknepen V10 in 2006. Kalkhoven zal toch 600 man aan het werk moeten houden in zijn fabriek.

Met het mogelijke vertrek van Toyota en het afscheid van GM is de interesse van Hyundai zeer welkom. Toch schappelijk Kalkhoven en Forsythe dat ze de concurrent in leven houden.

Na haar bijna-overwinning tijdens de Indy 500 is de mediahype omtrent deze dame losgebarsten. De hype blijft voortduren...........echter Danica laat zien dat geen ééndagsvlieg is. Gisteren heeft ze voor de tweede maal de pole gepakt voor een IRL wedstrijd. Op de Kentucky Speedway is dit weekend de Amber Alert Portal Indy 300.

Benieuwd of Danica ditmaal haar snelheid van de trainingen en kwalificaties kan laten zien in de wedstrijd zelf. Haar concurrenten worden al nerveus
