F3000 newcomer Brand Motorsports has issued a press release saying that it has terminated the contract of France's Nicolas Minassian, following the opening round of the season at Imola on Saturday, but sources say the story isn't that simple.
The Brand press release says the decision to let Minassian go was taken last Thursday, although the driver was not told until after the race.
However it is claimed that Minassian had already decided to quit the team following a disagreement with team owner Martin Kendrick.
Brand also claims that Minassian threatened a member of the team in a garage at Imola. formula-3000.net has obtained photographic evidence of the incident, which involved Kendrick, but has chosen not to publish the photos. We believe other media outlets have taken a similar decision.
It is unclear who will replace Minassian at Brand, nor what the future holds for the unlucky Frenchman.
Brand has become one of Formula 3000's most contraversial teams since it bought the entry and race equipment of the RSM Marko team at the end of last year.
A number of key staff quit before the season started, and sources suggest the team's problems may not be over just yet.
