Tamiya's new FW24 kit (due late May) will feature complete engine detail that attaches directly to the monocoque, separately molded brake calipers and disks (which rotate with the wheels!) and even jack stands so you can portray the car during a pit stop. Of course, the rear cowl opens to show off the engine, too. Place your advance order today!

Bron : HLJ

Ben super, reuze benieuwd. Nu de MP4/17D nog

Tamiya is proud to present the 1/20 scale replica of the Williams F1 BMW FW24. This impressive machine driven by R. Schumacher and J.P. Montoya fought fiercely during last year's F1 season, and excelled on high-speed circuits. Tamiya presents a model of the F1 machine that gave Ferrari a run for its money during the 2002 Formula 1 season, under the team that is sure to be neck and neck with Ferrari and McLaren this 2003 season.

Back on Circuit
While Team Williams had its slump period, the alliance with BMW in 2000 was a formula for renewed and rapid success. In barely two years time, Team Williams F1 was 2nd only to Ferrari and is now closing fast. Despite the loss of their top designer, Adrian Nuey, the team picked up a state-of-the-art BMW engine, which promised to more than compensate for any losses in the design department.

With its characteristic aerodynamic devices and angular form, the FW24 does not look so different from its predecessor, the FW23. However, the resemblance does not do justice to the extensive fine-tuning of insufficient mechanical grip and other solutions on previous weak points. Though retaining a 90-degree bank angle of the FW23 machine's BMW P80 engine, the BMW P82 engine of the FW24 has taken power to an all-new level. The FW24 featured an early and late season version due to an alternation in livery following a change in sponsorship from COMPAQ to HP (which bought out COMPAQ). The new HP livery was seen from the 10th GP in England, and was also marked by structural improvement in aerodynamics. This latter version featured pontoon side surfaces that dramatically converged toward the rear wing. The fin of the rear wing was altered as well, to a form similar to that of Ferrari's. The front wing was evolved to incorporate 3D curved surfaces. While front and rear wings are changed and re-set every race, this kit will replicate the wings as they appeared in the 12th Grand Prix at the Hockenheim Circuit, transfigured from ultra-high speed to mid, high speed course use.

In ieder geval inmpressive stuff.
