Eric Aubijoux, een 42-jarige Franse motorrijder, is de tweede Dakar-dode van dit jaar. Aubijoux was bijna aan het einde van de verbindingsetappe toen hij stopte. Hij kreeg een beroerte, verloor het bewustzijn en kon niet meer worden gereanimeerd.

Aubijoux was 18e in het klassement. Hij was aan zijn zesde Dakar bezig. "Wij willen de familie en de vrienden van de rijder ons medeleven betuigen", meldt de organisatie. Op 9 januari, in de vierde rit, liet de Zuid-Afrikaan Elmer Symons, ook een motorrijder, het leven.
Erg triestige zaak...En zo eindigd de Dakar toch weer met een trieste negatieve balans...
